Democracy is dead and it’s causing the economy to go with it. Have you watched the news lately? Like most Americans, I will have to say you probably haven’t. Even if you do watch the news everyday do you truly WATCH the news, and understand what is really going on in the world around us? Governments are collapsing around the world, the global economy is failing, and the future does not look promising. Human greed and lack of moral value is the true explanation for why we have slipped into the economic quick sand we see now. We are running out of ideas, and things to grab onto to save us from ourselves. Again, another long blog post, but you need to know the facts, and there are still plenty more that weren’t included.
I come from a blueberry farming area in New Jersey, and I happen to be best friends with one of those farmers and his family. I was talking to him on the phone last week, and he told me startling news. He went to a meeting with a bunch of local farmers association to discuss the latest news in farming and the economy. He told me that if oil prices do not go down some farmers are talking about not even farming this year. One farmer who owns 5,000 acres said that last year he barely broke even and if the oil prices remain what they are now he won’t even bother to farm this year. He said many others felt the same and will follow suit.
Oil prices will not go down but instead get higher when demand is increased during the summer months due to travel, farming, etc. The unrest in the Middle East will only send the prices soaring even higher. Tunisia and Egypt, countries who have recently overthrown suppressive dictators, are still witnessing deadly protests and political unrest. Tunisia, along with Twitter and Facebook, started a revolution across many other oil rich countries. Oman, Iraq, Bahrain, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia are all currently witnessing civil unrest because of inflation cost on food, unemployment rates, and suppressive governments. These demonstrations and government instability will only weaken supplies even more causing shortages. This inevitably alters the global supply and demand causing prices of oil to sky rocket. Since we use oil for almost everything, inflation will be involved in food, production of plastics, paving transportation systems, air travel, and the list goes on indefinitely. Oil is used for 100 percent of the things we use today. Oil fuel powers the tractors that spread the crop, is in the pesticides and fertilizers needed for mass production, powers the tractor trailer to haul it 1,000 miles to get to you. The prescription drugs used to keep your heart rate low are infused with the byproducts of petroleum. The makeup you put on your face every day is also made of the same petroleum base.
The United States fuels the world economy and when we fall so will it. But don’t forget that this is a two way street. Things happening all around the world affect the U.S. economy because we have outsourced all our jobs to third world countries. Australia has seen one of the worst, if not THE worst, environmentally fueled hazards there for thousands of years. The Middle East in 2010 and in 2011 are seeing unprecedented weather patterns that are crippling their economies even further. The BP oil spill put thousands of people out of work. The government said it is all cleaned up, but we are still cleaning up after a oil spill from the Valdez which occurred over 2 decades ago. Also, the total amount of oil spilled from the Valdez was less than half what was spilled in the 2010 BP spill. BP oil spill means little food coming from the Gulf of Mexico, people aren’t working because all the fish and shell fish are dead, inflation rises, unemployment goes up, and the economy tanks in a huge region in our country. Not including all the hazardous weather that will destroy and is currently destroying crop production around the world as we speak. Food costs are inflating over 200% for small and medium size businesses all over the U.S. and even more so all over the world. We are simply in a lag period right now but the beast is going to show face soon. This will probably occur faster than the end of the world haha. But no, Americans are as dumb as they come, and they forget important things such as this. But ask them who the winner of American Idol was 3 years ago and they will tell you. Manmade or natural disasters inevitably cost insurance companies and people their jobs. Nothing is free, someone has to pay for rebuilding and lost investments. This is going to snowball into something huge. As for now, we are in the lag period before it catches up to us.
I’ve come to the conclusion that people, especially in the U.S., are complete idiots and believe everything that is told to them by our government. When are we going to realize that our government has kept us in the dark since the foundation of this great country? When the economy tanks by the end of this year, which it will, I’ll be the same person in the back of the room no one listened to saying “I told you so”. Can we fix the economy? No, the political beast has grown so large that there is nothing for us to do now but to witness a depression worse than the Great Depression. Think I’m wrong? Time will tell.
